When life hands you an 11 hour power outage, you have a tomato for dinner and read about Burning Man by candlelight.

I got my Squonk on with a friend yesterday afternoon in a small park in Sharpsburg. Described by the New York Times as "a multimedia troupe of infinite jest with an imagination to match," Squonk is a Pgh group whose shows are musically exciting and visually imaginative, so catch one by all means if they come to your area. Here's their Facebook page for more info: Squonk Facebook.
At some point on the way home from the concert, this little fella affixed himself to one of my car's back door handles. I noticed him when I got out and went to open the door in question. I tried to flick him off, but he wasn't having it. For all I know, he's still there. #WildPittsburgh

Those occasions on my walks when cars slow down as they pass me, as happened a couple of times this morning, always make me anxious. I presume the drivers are men—I rarely make eye contact—and there's something alpha-dog menacing about this expression of admiration (if that's what it is) when it's done in a pickup or car. I'm sure this is something most women experience. Given what a tinder box we're living in right now, though, I also can't help but worry that one day someone who's had a bad week will read me and jump out of the car to take out his frustrations on my body.
