I've accumulated so many rejections over the past several years that I'm mostly inured to them, but once in a while, I attach more hope to a particular submission if I'm attached to the piece(s) I'm submitting and the journal seems like a good fit, so that when the rejection comes, it weighs on me -- viz. the email I received a short while ago from the Pgh based journal Creative Nonfiction. 😑

Dessert this week: strawberry pie with farmers' market berries. In case it's not obvious from the lumpy edges, the crust is homemade (with lard!). The glaze is basically sugar, cornstarch, and water, with a cup of pulverized berries added at the end for color. 😋

Since the Equality Act, a much needed piece of federal legislation, remains stalled in the Senate due to a GOP filibuster (cuz why TF would they vote to give members of the queer community their civil rights???), the Biden Administration has just issued a welcome executive order as a stopgap.

A belated Pride post: last Saturday was a picture perfect day, with many, many folks in attendance (including a lot of young folks), plus I was able to register several people to vote. I arrived back home that night with sore feet and a full heart. Happy Pride!
